Terms of Service
Effective July 20, 2026
These terms are short because the product keeps little and promises plainly. By using The Bookkeeper you agree to them.
The Service
The Bookkeeper is bookkeeping software that stores your books as plain text files in your own Google Drive and provides a web workbench and an AI interface over them. The core product is free. The optional bank sync feature, when available, is a paid subscription with a free trial, priced as shown before you subscribe.
Your Data Is Yours
Your books belong to you, live in your storage, and are portable plain text. You can export or walk away at any moment and lose nothing. We claim no rights over your data.
Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for your Google account's security, for who you invite into your books, and for the accuracy of what you record. Sharing uses Google Drive's own permission system, and revoking access there is effective immediately.
Not Professional Advice
The Bookkeeper is software, not an accountant, a tax advisor, or a lawyer. Reports and AI answers are computed from your records and can be wrong if the records are. Decisions that matter deserve a qualified professional.
Acceptable Use
Do not use the service to break the law, to attack the service or others, or to attempt access to books you were not invited into.
As Is
The software is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before a claim, which for the free product is zero. Because your books live in your Drive, service interruptions on our side never take your data with them.
Open Source
The software is MIT licensed. Its source, including the history of these terms, is public in the repository. You may self host it under the license's terms.
Termination
You can stop using the service at any time, and your books stay with you. We may suspend access to the hosted service for abuse. Either way, your files remain in your Drive, untouched.
Changes
If these terms change, the effective date above changes with it, and continued use after a change is acceptance. Material changes to paid features are notified before they apply.
