A real conversation with the demo books, over MCP. Try it yourself in two steps.
Two steps. Works with Claude today, and with any assistant that speaks MCP.
Settings, Connectors, Add custom connector. Then ask where the demo money went.
Open Claude ConnectorsYour own books get a private link the moment you sign in with Google.
Profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, aging. Click any total and the transactions behind it open, down to the source line. Every report state is a URL you can send to your accountant.
Arrow keys, type to edit, Tab and Enter, ranges, undo, and the little fill handle in the corner of a selection. Fix a category once and the books learn the payee for good.
Your entire accounting system is plain text files in your own Google Drive. Readable in any editor, rebuilt deterministically, exportable in one click. If we disappear tomorrow, you lose nothing.
Type an email, they get a link, they sign in with Google, they are in the books. Sharing is Drive's own permission system, and every change records who made it.
Connect QuickBooks Online once and your chart of accounts and transactions come across, mapped and categorized. Or drop any bank CSV.
The parser, the ledger, the app, the MCP server: all of it public, all of it yours. Self-host the whole thing with two files if you like.
In a folder named The Bookkeeper in your own Google Drive: yearly ledger files in plain text, an append only edit log, and your learned rules. We request the narrowest Drive permission that exists, which only lets the app see files it created. Our servers keep nothing, not even usernames.
Nothing happens to you. Your files are beancount compatible plain text, readable by an ecosystem of open source tools, or by any human with a text editor. The code is MIT licensed, so anyone can run the whole product.
Accountants get the reports they already know, with drill-down QuickBooks charges extra for, at a price of zero. Invite them as a viewer and send report links that open on their phone.
The books speak MCP, the open protocol assistants use to reach tools. Claude reads your ledger with your token, per request, and our server retains nothing. Every answer links back to the workbench so you can verify any number by hand.
Bank connections cost us real money per account per month. Five dollars covers it. Nothing else in the product costs us per user, so nothing else costs you.
